The Espoon Rantaraitti

The Coastal Pathway Sign

I realize it has been a long time since my last blog post. My apologies. October was a whirlwind of coursework, traveling, and unpacking. I have many adventures and musings to share with you all, but the long dark winter months are approaching which should give me more time to reflect and journal them for you.

Today’s post is about the path I walk almost every day for exercise. It is incredibly beautiful and brings a sense of peace and calm amid the chaos and stress that can come with living a long way from family and friends.

The 40 km-long Espoon Rantaraitti (Espoo Waterfront Walkway) takes you from historical and architectural hotspots to stunning natural views. The walkway is part of a larger path that begins in Helsinki and stretches all the way to town of Kivenlahti, in the west.

Conveniently, the trail has an access point at the top of our driveway. So far, Jason and I have walked about four miles to the east and west from our house. Along the way, the trail offers beautiful beaches, cozy cafés, bird sanctuaries full of life, and even remnants of World War II trenches and gun turrets!

Here are a few snapshots from my almost-daily walks along the coastline. I hope they bring a little of Espoo’s beauty to you, too.

Enjoy!
